The Chalets at Naldehra is
near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh in North India.
It is located 300 m away from the Naldehra Golf Course.
Access
By Road: The route from Delhi
is on the NH1 via Sonepat, Karnal, Ambala, Zirakpur and then
on the
NH22 via Panchkula, Kalka, Shimla.
The Chalets is a drive-in
resort with sufficient private parking. The road right upto
the hotel is fully metalled and in good condition all along
suitable for luxury sedans, SUVs, MUVs and buses.
From Delhi one takes the NH1
and turns right at Zirakpur just before Chandigarh. Then on
the NH22, further onto Shimla via Panchkula, Pinjore, Kalka,
Parwanoo and Solan. Before entering Shimla one can take the
bypass to the right. From Dhalli the left turn takes one to
Naldehra.
By Rail: The nearest railhead
is at Shimla, 23 kms from Naldehra.
Since one has to change trains at Kalka to narrow gauge for
Shimla, a more preferable option is
taking a cab from Kalka as it takes less time (3 hours).
The other railheads are at
Kalka, Chandigarh and Ambala.
Distances to Naldehra from these places are given above.
Cabs for Naldehra are easily available at all the railway
stations.
The Kalka Mail is a popular
overnight train from Delhi while the Shatabdi and Himalayan
Queen
are day trains which take about 5 to 6 hours from Delhi to
Kalka.
Many western railway trains come up to Ambala.
By Air: The closest airport
is at Jubarhatti, 45 kms away.
It is a small airport where only 18 and 16 seater planes land.
The airport at Chandigarh is 147 kms away where the Airbus
lands.
Considered one of the more
challenging courses in the country, the nine-hole par-68 course
has four new greens and a host of tree hazards in the back
nine. Today Himachal Tourism maintains the links and it is
possible to pay green fees for the day or take temporary,
annual and life membership. The course is open through the
year; the monsoon months between July and September are particularly
good for golfing since the highly watered turf becomes springy
and the yardage increases.
Naldehra got its name from
the Nag temple (or Dehra of the god Nag) which lies bang in
the centre of the course. Besides the glorious golfing, you
can go for long walks through the woods and picnics in the
valley. Drive off to the thick forests of Mashobra (12 km)
or the hot sulphur springs of Tatapani (30 km). This is just
the ideal mountain break to lift your spirits.
